Carers Manchester is a group of organisations who work together to meet the needs of unpaid carers. Early last year, we opened up our Network to expressions of interest from new organisations. We are excited to announce that String of Hearts are the newest official member of the Carers Manchester Network.

Who are String of Hearts?
String of Hearts brings people together through music, to reduce isolation and improve wellbeing. Their support primarily focuses on older adults who are isolated or living with long-term conditions, who experience barriers to accessing creative community activities.
Previous projects with Carers Manchester
String of Hearts have frequently collaborated with members of the Carers Manchester Network to offer free music activities for unpaid carers. For example, during Carers Week 2025, they ran a two-hour ‘drum circle’ in South Manchester, where carers wrote and performed an original song about the joys and challenges of caring.
In previous years, String of Hearts facilitated a series of workshops where carers worked on a song over several weeks, culminating in performances across the city.
Joining the Carers Manchester Network
In their expression of interest to join the Carers Manchester Network, String of Hearts explained that they are keen to "be part of a network of people in the community supporting unpaid carers and their loved ones." By joining, they will benefit from regular Network meetings where organisations share ideas and information in order to improve support for unpaid carers.
Dan Mitchell, Carers Manchester Network and Engagement Co-ordinator, said of their membership:
As someone who has previously worked in creative industries, it is wonderful to see another creative organisation join the Carers Manchester Network. I know String of Hearts do fantastic work with carers and I am looking forward to seeing the impact another creative organisation brings to the Network.
Get involved
String of Hearts run regular groups and conduct home visits for adults over the age of 55 living in Trafford or South/Central Manchester, who are interested in music and would benefit from making connections with other people in their community.
If you don't meet these criteria but you're an unpaid carer over the age of 18, there are still plenty of opportunities to take part in String of Hearts activities. They regularly collaborate on projects with various Carers Manchester Network members to deliver free music projects for carers, so keep an eye out on our newsletter and social media for upcoming sessions.
