Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring and call for better support for unpaid carers. This Carers Week (8th-13th June 2026), members of our Network hosted a range of events and activities to give carers a chance to connect, take a break from caring, and get advice on caring-related issues.

Talbot House took 30 older carers on a weekend break away to Blackpool. This trip was funded by the National Lottery Community fund supporting Talbot House’s THRIVE project working with older carers of learning disabled adult children. One carer called the trip “a fantastic break away” and noted, “Feel so much better than I did before. Excellent company among like-minded people.”

Together Dementia Support hosted a wellbeing evening with curry provided by Kurry Kitchen, followed by a choice of either a Tai Chi session or massage workshop, where carers received foot massages and learned how to give them. All carers went home with a wellbeing treat, such as hand creams and facemasks. Carer feedback included, “Thanks so much for a lovely evening. Delicious food and great company and wonderful atmosphere of loving acceptance.”

Carers Manchester Central (a partnership led by African Caribbean Care Group and supported by African and Caribbean Mental Health Services) hosted a carers karaoke session. Carers stepped out of their comfort zones and cheered each other on to take the mic.
