The #TimeForYou consultation has now closed. Thank you to everyone who participated! We received an amazing 108 online survey responses, and heard from 60 carers at workshops and outreach events. We will share our findings via this blog, our e-newsletter, and social media – so stay tuned!

We want to hear from you: Do you get time for yourself?

If you support a relative, partner or a friend, you might be a carer (read more on our website about who is a carer). Caring for a loved one can be rewarding but also tiring. Taking time for yourself helps you recharge, feel better and have energy to continue being a carer.

Carers can take time for themselves in many ways:

  • A moment to do something you enjoy at home
  • Going to a group or an activity
  • Meeting friends or going for a walk
  • A visit to a museum or a concert, or
  • An overnight stay away from home.

The time for yourself can be informal, or it can be arranged by an organisation. If you would like to find out what activities and opportunities are taking place for carers in Manchester, you can view our Events calendar.

We want to hear from you

We are talking to carers to hear about:

  • Do you get time for yourself?
  • What support you would need to take a break of your choice?
  • What breaks and activities are currently available?
  • What more is needed?

We will use these discussions to improve opportunities for carers in Manchester. The consultation is open until 31 January 2025.

If you are an unpaid carer

You can fill in our online survey here. You might win a shopping voucher for £40.

Come to one of our workshops to share your views.

The workshops are friendly and engaging. In the in-person workshop we’ll have light refreshments available. For your time you will receive a shopping voucher for £20, and travel expenses are paid (public transport or mileage and car parking cost – bring receipts or photographs with you).

  • Online workshops: Monday 27 January, from 2pm to 3.30pm & 7pm to 8.30pm
  • In-person workshop: Tuesday 11 February, 12.30pm to 2pm on Oldham Street in Central Manchester. This workshop was rescheduled due to illness. If you had registered for the original one, we have emailed you to confirm if you can make the new date, and will hold a ticket for you.

We will also be visiting carer groups in January and might meet you there!

If you work with unpaid carers

We want to hear from you too! We want to hear if the carers you work with can take time for themselves, and

  • What works well?
  • What more support is needed?
  • Does your organisation provide any support that enables carers to take a break?
